PRELUDE AWARDS: EMPOWER INDIANA'S YOUNG ARTISTS
The Prelude Awards is one of the Indiana Association of School Principals’ unique inter-scholastic academic competition programs. These programs allow Indiana students an opportunity to compete in academics, similar to the way they compete in athletics. Academic competitions encourage success by honoring intellectual achievement and celebrating scholarship. “Under the facilitation of IASP, Prelude began a new tradition of celebrating the creative spirit of originality with the students. The focus is on original works and compositions created by the participating students in the areas of video/film, music composition and the visual arts,” said Gerald Mohr, IASP Executive Director.
High school students in the nine county Metropolitan Indianapolis area may apply to participate in the Prelude Awards. The program is open to schools in Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Johnson, Madison, Marion, Morgan and Shelby counties. Each school may submit three entries per competition category (a total of 12 entries per school). Department of Student Programs (DSP) member schools will submit one entry fee of $50; non-member DSP schools will submit one entry fee of $250. This entry fee allows up to 12 student entries.
Scholarships will be awarded in each of the arts categories and are to be applied to the tuition of the institution of higher education of the winner’s choice. First place winners in all categories will be awarded $1000, second place will receive $250, and third place will receive $100. A $400 award will be given to the schools of the four winning entrants.
The submission process for all categories will be announced to the teacher contact person in December. However, students can start preparing their work at any time according to the stated criteria in each category.
